This week might seem a bit late to be posting about New Years goals.
But the problem with New Years resolutions is that people rarely stick to them.
In my mind, this makes February the perfect time to talk about a year goal – because in theory, I should be more than a month into my new goal, right?
The thought process behind my goal
I’ve learned over the past few years that I am a planner.
I mean, I am spontaneous and don’t mind changing plans, but I also like having an idea of what is coming up.
I like looking ahead to the future.
Usually, I do a strict 30-day cleanse twice a year – in January and October.
Additionally, I like having monthly goals and aspirations.
For example, one year I got into running and ended up logging 100 miles in 3 months.
That might not seem like much mileage for those of you who actively run and participate in regular races, but it was a big undertaking for me.
And as you likely know by now, I like a good decluttering challenge.
But the last year or so has been a lot.
I’ve shared some of that struggle.
The daily grind, homeschooling three kids, making (what feels like) 25 meals, and trying to ensure the house is cleaned up before my husband gets home is about all I can handle lately.
So I decided that my January 2023 goal needed to be easy.
I needed to feel like the goal was all about taking care of myself.
I didn’t need another goal that required the brain space to measure food out or be nit picky about ingredients in the recipes I prepared.
So what did I decide?
I decided on a few basic self-care goals.
- I would strive to do yoga most days.
- I would wash my face daily.
These might seem pretty simplistic.
But simple is kind of where it’s at, right?
I don’t wear makeup every day, but I still feel like washing my face everyday feels like a loving act.
Two years ago I set up a skin care routine because I realized I spent a lot of time in the sun but wasn’t really protecting and helping my skin heal after the exposure.
But over the last nine-to-twelve months, I have been pretty bad about sticking to that routine.
So in 2023, I determined to wash my face every day so that my skin would look and feel better.
And most days, I would do yoga. I knew it wouldn’t happen every day, but my body feels better when I move it and the gentleness of yoga feels right.
I’m not putting a specific number on how many days a week.
And so far, I’m satisfied with how well I’m meeting these New Years goals.
