This week, I wanted to provide an update on the gardening work we started early this season.
We have definitely been busy!
We purchased an inexpensive greenhouse to move some of our larger plants (mostly tomatoes) outside that were outgrowing our grow light set-up.

Then, we finally reached the point in our season when we could transplant our tomato seedlings into the ground. We also placed some in planters around our deck/house.

And we finished preparing the rest of the ground in our garden space with compost, new landscape fabric, and mulch to keep the weeds at bay.

By this weekend, we hope to add one more trellis to the garden and transplant the cucumbers that are currently hardening off inside and outside the greenhouse. (We bring the plants out during the day when the weather cooperates and protect them from the chilly evenings by returning them to the greenhouse at night).

A. actually also covered and mulched a large area that had been tilled over a month ago; this area was an old chicken run that had been neglected, but when we tore out the old fencing and cut back the weeds and such, the soil was beautifully rich beneath.

We’ll be using this space for additional planting room and are currently planning to make it a pumpkin patch!
I’ll keep you posted as we continue to finalize our gardening plans and get more seedlings in the ground.
I’d love to hear about your gardening endeavors. Drop us a note in the comments below!
P.S. Some of our seeds in the raised beds we filled a few weeks ago have emerged too. I find it so exciting to see tiny plants poke their heads out of the earth!
