Week Three Recap: SMART goal eating

This week…

I’m just embarrassed. My aspirations of this whole SMART goal strategy working have been crushed.

It’s a real challenge to overcome binge eating.

The thing is that the initial momentum is difficult to build because the cravings are so intense. The habits are so ingrained. And it is so challenging to overcome these tendencies when so many factors are working against your success.

It doesn’t help that this upcoming week is my birthday and I am feeling rather discouraged by my failure to achieve my 2022 goal of dropping 30 pounds by this birthday. Really I only needed to drop 20 from January 2022 until now, but I managed to regain weight this year instead of losing it.

I have been thinking more about body positivity over the last few weeks though. The fact is that my body has remained fairly steady in this range for the last decade or two, and I might just need to love the skin I’m in, so to speak.

That said, I think I can love myself and continue to set goals! We’re not giving up yet.

I didn’t do the best job cataloging the week’s meals (a symptom of binging – not logging or tracking food so you don’t actually see the overall consumption).

A brief overview (with all the added sugar starred*) of this week’s food choices:

  • A peach
  • An apple with peanut butter
  • Cheese and bacon pizza slices (at the end of a roadtrip)
  • A bar of chocolate*
  • Blue corn tortilla chips with quinoa black bean salsa
  • Frozen pineapple
  • Madeleine cookies with a scoop of ice cream*
  • BBQ lentil sliders
  • Chocolate rice cakes*
  • Kale salad
  • Ants on a log
  • Cut veggies (several days)
  • Mini chocolate chip cookie dough Larabars*
  • Caramel m&ms*
  • Two Reese’s cups*
  • Fresh juices (a variety: kale/cucumber/apple/ginger; carrot/apple/ginger/lemon; etc.)
  • Last night’s dinner: spaghetti/zoodles in vegan bolognese

Today was lovely too:

  • A very berry smoothie bowl from a local restaurant
  • A beef burger with avocado and pickled jalapenos on a brioche bun with sweet potato fries
  • And a small bowl of the chocolate-banana smoothie bowl I made the kids with some of my friend’s homemade granola

Tomorrow is another day.
