This week, I wanted to share an overview of a typical day-in-the-life as a homeschooling mom of four.
My day usually starts with a 5:00 a.m. alarm. I usually have to throw myself out of bed before I fall back to sleep.
I spend a few minutes getting dressed and ready for my workout in the dark. For some reason I still think I can’t turn on lights or I’ll wake up a kid.
Then I head downstairs and grab a half cup of coffee (thank you last night self for setting up the coffee pot) and head down the hall to open the garage for Sarah – if we’re working out at my house – or hop in the car to drive to my local gym. Today was an at-home workout day, so we completed a full body HIIT routine followed by a yoga video and an almost 2-mile walk.

If I get sweaty enough, I’ll jump in the shower before I start breakfast. My three bigger kids are responsible for their own food, which leaves breakfast for the littlest up to me.
Today I made a Greek inspired omelet with spicy peppers and goat cheese for myself.

Then, I made a latte and started a load of laundry quickly before we jumped into school.

My two bigger kids are pretty independent but the little two require constant attention. I’m still trying to figure out the best way to teach them. So far, I’ve learned that #3 sits and reads better if he is allowed to chew gum.

Yesterday we spent all morning reading and didn’t do any worksheets so today will be mostly worksheets with a sprinkle of reading. Some days we are done by 9:00 a.m. and other days it drags out forever because I get distracted or the kids do.

After school is clean-up and lunch and then clean-up again. I have to run the dishwasher after lunch or we won’t have room for dinner dishes.
I start a load of laundry or switch whatever is in there and try to get some chores done. Today I ended up grocery shopping which took up a big chunk of the afternoon.

After putting groceries away, I spent some time lesson planning while I sat at the table helping one of my kids with school work that he was procrastinating getting done.

Before I know it, it’s dinner time followed by clean-up (when five people are home all day, a LOT of cleaning is required). And then it’s off to bed for my little ones – and soon after for me – so we can wake up and do it all again the next day!
