This week, I wish I could say I had a successful second week on my self-imposed “Back to Balance” challenge, but it has really been a struggle.
I didn’t take photos of everything, I didn’t log everything, and I definitely didn’t adhere to my goal of healthy eating.
Somewhere in the week, there were cookies and nutella covered graham crackers. Things got desperate.
But I am going to redouble my efforts and remember my motivation. I’m not pursuing weight loss for aesthetics or to fit some “norm.” Having struggled with gestational diabetes during my most recent pregnancy, I am striving to avoid Type 2 diabetes in the long run and ensure that I am around as long as possible to enjoy these beautiful babies.
Plus, I miss feeling comfortable in my own skin.
Here are some of the highlights from the week (when things went well):

One of my favorite things about summer is all the fresh fruit at affordable prices. My favorite fruits – berries, cherries, and watermelon – are all abundant and relatively inexpensive, and I definitely eat my fill!
I’ve also been finishing off the remaining freezer meals I prepared for these postpartum days, so there was some thawed chili, baked oatmeal, and vegan lasagna in the mix.

I’m working on eating the things I love while ensuring they are nutrient dense, satiating, and as wholesome as possible. I still struggle daily with the cravings for sugar, so overcoming that will take more work yet. The fresh fruit helps, but I also find that swapping a basic pancake recipe for one made with oats and bananas, for example, makes a big difference in how I feel after eating.

I know I’m not alone in the struggle to achieve balance in our overstimulated, oversugared, over-EVERYTHING world. I hope this challenge proves encouraging to someone!
Until next week…
