This week, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge my family’s 10th year of homeschooling.
I literally had to count out the years I’ve been doing this because I couldn’t believe that this is year ten. I feel like that should make me a “veteran” homeschool mom, but it feels like it’s my first year every fall. I am always nervous and hesitant to start and feel like I have no idea what I’m doing.
This year, I have a 9th grader, 7th grader, 3rd grader, and 1st grader. Lately my brain has been switching back and forth so quickly between all the kids that I’m exhausted by the end of the school day. It seems like everyone needs my help all at once and I haven’t figured out how to stagger helping them.

Now, we are almost 5 weeks in and I’m finding this so hard. I made a block schedule for the kids that we are mostly sticking to but I didn’t make one for myself. So I’m already behind in grading things and keeping on top of my kids’ projects. (Haven’t heard of block schedules? Let me know and I can do a post about that.)
This year my goal is to stay on top of grading things and not let projects slip through the cracks and pile up. I was not very good about that last year and one of my kids got to the end of the year and had a stack of tests he had been skipping because he didn’t feel like taking them.
Well, this is the week that I catch up and start over. While I grade and sort papers, the rest of my house will be overrun with Legos, puzzles, and train tracks.

Have you been homeschooling for years too? I’d love to hear your experiences and expertise on managing homeschool when you have kids in various grades. Drop a comment below!
