Basement Update

This week, I am finally sharing another basement update. These posts have been few and far between as the entire project has taken much longer than anticipated.

We’ve done an extensive amount of work (including relevant improvements to our upstairs) in the process of building out an in-law apartment for my mom.

A lot of work has happened that I failed to share, but here’s where we’re at now:

Countertops

A. custom made butcherblock countertops for the kitchenette, officially making the basement kitchen space nicer than our primary kitchen.

Bathroom

The bathroom is finished aside from the aesthetic and functional touches like the shower curtain rod and shelving.

Since we opted not to drill down into the basement foundation floor, the shower was built up to allow space for a drain beneath the stall. A. used a special coating on the shower step to make it non-slip.

Bedroom Paint

The bedroom is fully painted ceiling to floor. The only portion of this space needing paint is the closet, and then we can mount trim. Then the room will be move-in ready!

Painting in progress

We are nearing time to paint the rest of the apartment and hang trim everywhere. The basement is starting to feel cozy and homey, and I am getting excited!

I actually ordered armchairs and a bench for the entryway today!
