Polar Plunge Challenge

This week, we finally did it.

It’s been on our to-do list since last year. Well, on my friend’s list. I don’t like to be cold.

But this past week, our three oldest kids went to a winter retreat and participated in a cold plunge.

We couldn’t let our kids be braver than us, so we schedule a polar plunge of our own and made it happen!

We walked to the river, shed all our warm clothes, and headed to the water.

The snow was super cold on my bare feet, and I immediately regretted not having some kind of footwear to wear in the water.

We didn’t walk out far enough to be submerged, so we had to squat down to get our shoulders wet before we ran out of the water. Between my family and my friend’s family, five of the eight kids tried it with two of them squatting down to get almost fully submerged.

All of the kids said they would try it again, and my only critique was that the rocky beach was painful under my feet.

Next time, we need to find a sandy beach – and maybe wear water shoes!
