This week, we got a puppy.
Well, just kidding. We actually got the puppy a while ago.
You may have noticed the sudden appearance of a leash in Sarah’s recap of her November Minimalism challenge.
Yes, just when I thought I was pulling my life back together after our house flooded and we spent half the year living with my in-laws…JM decided we should get a puppy.
Nevermind the fact that we just got out of potty training and sleepless nights (OK, we’re still working on sleeping through the night) with our young children.
And yes, I realize that I was just writing about how I resurrected our morning routines and a nightly reset habit. Apparently I was doing so well getting our family back into a rhythm that it was prime time for some upheaval.
How did this happen?
My husband has asked me so many times in the past if we could get a dog.
And each time in the past, I have shut him down. Quickly.
There used to always be a really great reason to say no!
Well, this time around, I must have hesitated a moment too long, and he knew he had found his window of opportunity. And JM seized the moment.
So yeah, if it seems like I have been a little less consistent with my contributions here on the blog, it’s all because I’ve been busy with our new puppy.
Meet Bolt.

This little guy is full of energy and the perfect dog for my lively, always-on-the-go 6-year-old son.

He eats socks, likes to sit in our kids’ old Little Tykes car, and is generally up to no good if you let him out of your sight for more than a minute.
The rescue we adopted Bolt from says he is a corgi/husky mix, though we aren’t really sure if that is accurate. JM wants to get him DNA tested, but for now, we’re going with this mix.
Well, I’ve never had a puppy before.
Needless to say, I had no idea how much work Bolt would require.
I feel like we have a toddler all over again with the potty training and the chasing him around the house trying to figure out what he stuck in his mouth.
Apparently we lucked out in some ways though.
Bolt sleeps through the night already and actually likes his crate.
Nevertheless, I’ll take all the puppy advice you have to share! Leave your training tips – and guesses about Bolt’s true breed – in the comments below.
I’ll be sure to report back with any updates about this little guy!
